Author Guidelines

These instructions explain how to prepare and submit a manuscript to the Journal of Knowledge Learning and Science Technology (JKLST, ISSN 2959-6386, online). Please read them in full before submitting. A ready-formatted manuscript template is available for download in Section 3, but every formatting and structural rule is also written out below, so you can follow these instructions without opening the file.

1. Scope and types of submission

JKLST is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal. We welcome original, previously unpublished work — research papers, reviews, surveys, tutorial papers, application papers, case studies, short research notes, and letters — on both applied and theoretical topics within the journal’s scope.

• Language: English or Chinese.
• Length: full-length studies of approximately 8,000 words (including references and appendices) and no more than 19 pages.
• File format: Microsoft Word (.doc / .docx) only; other formats are not accepted.
• Originality: the manuscript must not have been published elsewhere and must not be under consideration by another journal. Concurrent submission results in immediate rejection.
• Required elements (in order): title; authors; affiliations; contacts; abstract; keywords; introduction; main text; conclusions; appendices; acknowledgements; references.

2. Article Processing Charge (APC) and fee waivers

JKLST is fully open access with an Article Processing Charge of USD 100 per accepted article (hard copy not included). There are no submission or review charges. The APC is payable only after a manuscript is accepted, and is non-refundable unless publication is cancelled for reasons attributable to the journal. Funding sources should be disclosed.

Fee waivers: inability to pay is never a barrier to publication. Authors who lack funds — in particular corresponding authors based in low-income and lower-middle-income economies — may request a full or partial waiver by writing to editor@jklst.org at submission or upon acceptance, before payment. Waiver requests are handled independently of peer review and have no bearing on the editorial decision. Payment options are listed on the Article Processing Charge page.

3. Page layout and formatting

Prepare the manuscript on A4 paper (21 × 29.7 cm) in a single column, with:

• margins of 2.5 cm on all sides;
• Times New Roman, 12 pt body text;
• 1.15 line spacing;
• tables and figures numbered consecutively and cited in the text, with table captions above the table and figure captions below the figure; provide alternative text for figures where possible.

4. Manuscript structure

Arrange the manuscript in the order below. Each element states what it must contain.

4.1 Front matter

• Title — concise, informative, and in title case.
• Authors and ORCID iDs — list every author and provide one valid ORCID iD for each, preferably on the same line as the author’s name (for example, ORCID iD: 0000-0002-1825-0097). The production system validates the checksum and replaces each supplied iD with the approved linked ORCID icon; an iD supplied only in the manuscript is recorded as unauthenticated unless it was collected through an authenticated ORCID workflow.
• Affiliations — department, faculty/school, university, city, and country for each author.
• Corresponding author — mark with an asterisk and give a full name and e-mail address.
• Abstract — a single paragraph of 150–250 words covering the purpose, method/design, principal results, and conclusions. Do not include citations, undefined abbreviations, figures, or tables.
• Keywords — up to five, separated by semicolons.

4.2 Main text

Use numbered sections. A typical structure is:

1. Introduction — state the problem, context, research gap, objectives or research questions, significance, and the article’s contribution.
2. Literature Review — synthesise relevant prior work and the theoretical or conceptual framework; use clear second-level headings (for example, 2.1) and avoid unnecessary fragmentation.
3. Methodology — describe the design, context, participants or materials, instruments, procedures, ethics, and analysis in enough detail for evaluation or replication; adapt the section name to your discipline where appropriate.
4. Results — present findings in a logical order and cite every numbered table and figure.
5. Discussion — interpret the findings in relation to previous research, state theoretical and practical implications, and acknowledge limitations without repeating the Results.
6. Conclusion — summarise the principal conclusions and contribution without introducing new evidence; add recommendations or future work only where supported.

Authors in specific fields may adapt the main-text headings as follows:

• Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics): Abstract; Introduction; Materials & Methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusion; References.
• Social Sciences (Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology): Abstract; Introduction; Literature Review; Methodology; Findings/Results; Discussion; Conclusion; References.
• Humanities (Literature, Philosophy, History): Abstract/Summary; Introduction; Background/Literature Review; Main Body (Analysis/Interpretation); Discussion; Conclusion; References.
• Engineering & Technology: Abstract; Introduction; Literature Review; Methodology & Design; Results & Testing; Discussion; Conclusion; References.
• Medical & Health Sciences: Abstract; Introduction; Methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusion; References.

4.3 Back matter (required statements)

After the Conclusion, include the following statements. Where a statement does not apply, write “Not applicable” or use the suggested wording.

• Acknowledgements — acknowledge non-author contributions and support, or state “Not applicable.”
• Funding — identify funder(s) and grant number(s), or state “This research received no external funding.”
• Author Contributions — describe contributions using CRediT roles (for example, Conceptualization, Methodology, Data Curation, Formal Analysis, Writing—Original Draft, Writing—Review & Editing, Supervision).
• Conflicts of Interest — declare competing interests, or state “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
• Ethics Statement — for research involving humans or animals, name the approving body and the approval code/date; otherwise explain why approval was not required.
• Informed Consent Statement — state how informed consent was obtained, or “Not applicable.”
• Data Availability Statement — state where data and materials can be accessed, preferably with a persistent identifier, or explain any ethical, legal, or commercial restrictions.
• Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies — name any generative-AI tool used and explain its purpose and how its output was verified, or state that no generative AI was used in preparing the manuscript.

4.4 Appendices

Place supplementary instruments, questionnaires, derivations, or additional tables in an appendix (Appendix A, B, …) only where they are essential to understanding the article.

5. Citations and references

JKLST uses the IEEE numbered style.

• Cite sources with bracketed numbers in order of first appearance in the text, for example [1], [2], or [3]–[5]. Do not use author–date citations in the final manuscript.
• List references in the same numerical order at the end and include only works cited in the article.
• Supply a DOI as https://doi.org/… whenever available. Our production system cross-checks Crossref, DataCite, and OpenAlex metadata, but authors remain responsible for the accuracy of every reference.

6. Plagiarism screening

All submissions are screened for originality with Crosscheck (powered by iThenticate), a CrossRef initiative to prevent scholarly and professional plagiarism. Manuscripts showing unacceptable overlap with existing work are returned or rejected.

7. Peer review process

Authors are expected to participate in the peer-review process. Submissions are considered on the basis of significance, novelty, and usefulness through a fair, unbiased review that preserves the anonymity of the referees. The decision will be one of:

• Accept;
• Accept with minor changes;
• Accept with major changes;
• Reject.

Review typically takes up to three months. Revised manuscripts should be returned within 3 months (major revision) or 1 month (minor revision); contact the Editor if you need more time. The Editor may reject a paper that falls outside the journal’s aims and scope, is not technically sound, is not revised satisfactorily, or is inadequately presented. When submitting, you may suggest 2–4 potential reviewers (title, full name, and contact information); the Editor decides whether to use them.

8. Revised and final (camera-ready) version

The revised version must follow the same formatting rules as above and be accompanied by a short summary of the changes made and a point-by-point response to the reviewers’ comments. Prepare the final camera-ready version to the same specification and submit it electronically, quoting your paper ID. Authors are obliged to provide corrections or retractions of any errors discovered after publication.

9. Copyright and licensing

Submitting a manuscript certifies that it is not under review or published elsewhere and that all listed authors have contributed to and approved it. It is the authors’ responsibility to ensure the manuscript is free of copyright infringement, defamation, or other legal problems, and to obtain permission for any third-party copyrighted material before submission. Articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence; authors retain copyright and grant JKLST the right of first publication.

10. How to submit

Submit through the journal’s online submission system (log in and choose Make a Submission) or by e-mail to editor@jklst.org, with a covering message giving the name, address, and affiliation of the corresponding author. Every submission receives a paper ID — please quote it in all further correspondence.
